Job summary

Express Employment Professionals in Cedar City, UT is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to design and develop low- to medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution systems on-site. Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or related electrical emphasis.
• 3+ years of design experience in switchgear or power distribution.
• Experience with AutoCAD and E-Plan.
• Familiarity with low/medium voltage up to 38 kV.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and document low to medium voltage switchgear and power distribution systems.
• Create electrical drawings including one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.
• Select components (breakers, relays, CTs, PTs, bus bars, protective devices).
• Ensure designs meet IEC, ANSI, UL, IEEE standards and customer specs.
• Collaborate with mechanical, project management, and manufacturing teams.
• Review customer specifications and support submittals, production, and post-shipment phases.
• Maintain project documentation and provide updates to stakeholders.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Responsible for the design, development, and documentation of low to medium voltage switchgear and power distribution systems
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, customer requirements, and MCM quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical switchgear systems including – general requirements, elevation and plan views, one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.
• Select and specify electrical components such as breakers, relays, CTs, PTs, bus bars, and protective devices.
• Create and revise engineering drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, E-Plan).
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, UL, IEEE).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical designers, project managers, and manufacturing teams.
• Review and interpret customer specifications and provide technical input during submittal, production, and post-shipment phases.
• Maintain project documentation and provide timely updates to project stakeholders.

Work Environment

• Self-directed, able to work autonomously or with limited direct supervision, receives general instructions on new assignments.
• Typical work week - 40 hrs.
• This is an on-site position unless approval is given by management based on a major life change
• Willingness to work 10% overtime as needed.
• Travel is not required for this position.

Experience & Education

The well-qualified Design Engineer will have:

• A Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, or an Electrical Emphasis of a more General Engineering degree
• A technical degree or certificate with a minimum of three years’ relevant experience
• 3+ years of experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.
• Experience with AutoCAD, E-Plan, and Microsoft software
• Familiarity with low and medium voltage systems (up to 38kV).
• Strong understanding of electrical protection and control systems.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.).
• Hands-on experience in manufacturing or field service of switchgear.
