Job summary

MCM Engineering II is seeking a Design Engineer to design, develop, and document low to medium voltage switchgear and power distribution systems on-site in Utah. You will ensure compliance with standards and customer requirements while collaborating with cross-functional teams on detailed drawings and control circuits.

Responsibilities include selecting components, creating CAD drawings (AutoCAD, E-Plan), and maintaining project documentation with timely stakeholder updates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Technical degree/certificate with at least three years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, E-Plan, and Microsoft software.
  • Familiarity with low/medium voltage systems up to 38kV.
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection and control systems.
  • Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA standards.
  • Hands-on manufacturing or field service experience with switchgear.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and document low to medium voltage switchgear and power distribution systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and MCM quality standards.
  • Design and develop electrical switchgear systems including general requirements, elevations, one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.
  • Select and specify components such as breakers, relays, CTs, PTs, bus bars, and protective devices.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings using CAD software; ensure standards compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, PMs, and manufacturing.
  • Review customer specs and provide technical input during submittal, production, and post-shipment phases.
  • Maintain project documentation and provide timely updates to stakeholders.

Job description

  • Ensure that the QMS confirms to ISO 9001:2015
  • Ensure processes are delivering intended outcomes
  • Report to Top Management on the performance of the QMS; on opportunities for improvement; on change requirements; on innovations

  • Ensure the integrity of the QMS is maintained
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the design, development, and documentation of low to medium voltage switchgear and power distribution systems
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, customer requirements, and MCM quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical switchgear systems including - general requirements, elevation and plan views, one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.
  • Select and specify electrical components such as breakers, relays, CTs, PTs, bus bars, and protective devices.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, E-Plan).
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, UL, IEEE).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical designers, project managers, and manufacturing teams.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and provide technical input during submittal, production, and post-shipment phases.
  • Maintain project documentation and provide timely updates to project stakeholders.
Work Environment
  • Self-directed, able to work autonomously or with limited direct supervision, receives general instructions on new assignments.
  • Typical work week - 40 hrs.
  • This is an on-site position unless approval is given by management based on a major life change.
  • Willingness to work 10% overtime as needed.
  • Travel is not required for this position.

Experience & Education

The well-qualified Design Engineer will have:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, or an Electrical Emphasis of a more General Engineering degree
  • A technical degree or certificate with a minimum of three years’ relevant experience
  • 3+ years of experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, E-Plan, and Microsoft software
  • Familiarity with low and medium voltage systems (up to 38kV).
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection and control systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing or field service of switchgear.
