Job summary

The Large Power Systems Division at Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer to join the Turbocharger Application team in Lafayette, IN.

You will support NPI, CPI, factory support, and cost-reduction initiatives for LPSD engines, collaborating with engine platform, performance teams, and suppliers to define requirements and develop solutions. The role emphasizes product design, technical excellence, and the ability to manage multiple projects, with travel up to 10% and relocation offered.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology required.
Master’s degree preferred for top candidates.
Experience with Caterpillar engine products and applications.
Experience in component design engineering.
Experience in Gas or Diesel Performance Engineering.
Familiarity with NPI, CPI, NTI, Teamcenter.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with LPSD Platform and application teams to define program requirements.
Manage multiple projects concurrently within timelines and cost targets.
Present in component and program design reviews and gateways.
Utilize APQP to collaborate with suppliers; optimize designs for performance, reliability, durability and cost targets.
Direct off-site engineering groups providing analysis and detailing services.
Complete design FMEAs and develop validation requirements for new and improved designs.
Create product validation plans and lead execution of these plans.
Assist in teardown/inspection of turbochargers used in validation or returned from a customer.
