Bolton & Menk, Inc. in Minneapolis or Plymouth is seeking an ITS/Traffic Design Engineer, EIT, to join our Transportation team.

You will assist project managers with planning, design, and deployment of traffic engineering and ITS projects including traveler information systems and connected vehicles. The position emphasizes collaboration with project teams, design computations, and preparation of preliminary reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Engineer-in-Training or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Interest in intelligent transportation systems, connected and automated vehicles, and other technology applications.
• Strong technical writing skills.
• Willingness to learn new concepts and emerging technologies.
• Possess a valid driver's license; travel to facilities and job sites may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on transportation projects.
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
• Assist with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take-off estimates.
• Assist with traffic corridor studies related to traffic operations, traffic safety, modal integration, and access management.
• Assist with design of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, roadway lighting, ITS, work zones, and detours.

Job Overview

Bolton & Menk has an exciting opportunity for an ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems)/Traffic Design Engineer, EIT, to join our Transportation team in our Minneapolis or Plymouth office.

In this civil engineering role, we are looking to add an EIT who will help foster our mission to have all people live in safe, sustainable, and beautiful communities. The majority of your time will be spent assisting project managers and project engineers with the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems such as traveler information systems, advanced traffic management systems, transit technologies, wireless and fiber‑optic networks, and connected and automated vehicles.

What You Will Be Doing

• Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on transportation projects
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies
• Assist with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take‑off estimates
• Assist with traffic corridor studies related to traffic operations, traffic safety, modal integration, and access management
• Assist with design of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, roadway lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), work zones, and detours. Work may be applied to existing infrastructure as part of larger transportation improvement plans and specifications

Salary Range

$58,000 - $90,000 depending on years of experience and credentials
