Job summary

Brightpath Associates LLC is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in substation design. The role involves leading design efforts, conducting power system studies, and coordinating with clients and internal teams in a remote/hybrid setup with occasional field visits.

Ideal candidates hold an ABET-accredited degree and 7+ years of substation experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD and ETAP/PSCAD, and a strong command of industry standards. PE license required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) required.
• 7+ years in electrical engineering with substations design.
• Knowledge of HV/MV substations, power distribution, protection and control, transformers, switchgear, AIS, GIS.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and ETAP/PSCAD or equivalent.
• Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, ANSI, ASCE, and ACI standards.
• Carry out power system studies, calculations, design reviews, and documentation.
• Support project planning, budgeting, client/contractor coordination.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews, FAT, SAT and compliance inspections.
• Assist with proposals, client presentations, business development, improvements.
• Mentor engineers, participate in training, maintain certifications.

Job description

Work Arrangement: Remote or Hybrid, with occasional office and field visits.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, specifically in substation design and engineering.
• Strong knowledge of HV/MV substations, power distribution, protection and control systems, transformers, switchgear, AIS, and GIS.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and electrical analysis tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of industry standards, including IEEE, IEC, ANSI, ASCE, and ACI.
• Perform power system studies, engineering calculations, design reviews, and technical documentation.
• Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, equipment specifications, and coordination with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews, commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and compliance inspections.
• Assist with technical proposals, client presentations, business development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers, participate in training, and maintain professional certifications.

Additional Requirements

• Active PE license.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for project sites and client meetings.
• Ability to work in office and field environments, including exposure to electrical hazards.
• Overtime may be required during project deadlines or emergencies.
