Job summary

Lakeside Manufacturing is seeking a Design Engineer to join our Engineering team in Milwaukee. You will design new or modified stainless steel utility products, create 3D models in SolidWorks, and communicate design intent to manufacturing to meet cost and quality targets.

Responsibilities include reviewing specs, supporting DFM and CI initiatives, and collaborating with fabrication, welding and assembly teams to resolve design challenges and improve product quality.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required; 2- or 4-year engineering/drafting degree preferred.
• 1–3 years engineering/design experience preferred; sheet metal a plus.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D and CAD tools.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Leadership abilities and collaboration with others.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications and sales agreements to create accurate production drawings using SolidWorks 3D.
• Produce buildable 3D models based on input and communicate design intent to manufacturing teams.
• Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) through Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and CI initiatives.
• Utilize CAD techniques to perform design work, including calculations for performance standards, material selection, and construction methods.
• Prepare sketches, layouts, drawings, specifications, and other design data.
• Investigate design-related issues and maintain reference criteria.
• Analyze projects for manufacturability and material costs, developing cost-effective designs.
• Serve as technical resource for customers, service personnel, and field sales.
• Collaborate with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams to resolve design/production challenges.
• Participate on cross-functional teams to address manufacturing, design, and quality issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
