Job summary

Switchgear Magazine is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to lead the design of medium- and high-voltage power distribution and substation projects. You will develop complete engineering packages, including single/three line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring, layout plans, and related documentation.

The role requires collaboration with project managers, field teams, and customers, ensuring quality, constructability, and compliance while delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

Job description

• Lead the engineering and design of medium- and high-voltage power distribution and substation projects, delivering safe, reliable, and innovative solutions for our customers.
• Ability to independently develop complete engineering packages including single/three lines, AC/DC schematics and wiring, cable/conduit plans, equipment layout plans, etc for turnkey projects.
• Coordinate electrical and civil design packages to ensure quality, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Develop complete engineering packages, coordinating electrical and civil design activities to ensure quality, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Drive project success by managing design deliverables, schedules, budgets, and technical accuracy in partnership with project managers, field teams, and customers.
• Apply value-driven engineering practices to optimize designs, improve efficiency, and deliver cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or performance.
• Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to develop technical solutions that address evolving power system needs.
• Participate in site assessments and field walkdowns to evaluate existing infrastructure and support the development of engineering proposals and project scopes.
• Prepare engineering estimates, review technical documentation, and support project planning activities.
• Mentor and collaborate with fellow engineers and designers, sharing technical expertise and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
• Support projects across the United States through occasional travel (approximately 10%) for customer meetings, site visits, and project support activities.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of a BS in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited institution
• Minimum of seven (7) years electrical engineering or electrical design experience
• Experience in medium voltage power distribution or substation design
• Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future. Preferred Qualifications

• Field experience in testing/commissioning medium voltage equipment
• Working knowledge of NERC/FERC, NESC, NEC, ANSI, NETA
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
