Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Common Body
Department: Operations
POSITION SUMMARY:
Material Handling Design Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing efficient material handling systems within an automotive or heavy-duty manufacturing or distribution environment, utilizing their knowledge of various types of conveyor systems, automated storage and retrieval systems, robotics, and other material handling equipment to optimize material flow and minimize costs while adhering to safety standards. Key duties include conducting feasibility studies, creating detailed system layouts, selecting appropriate equipment, coordinating installation, and ensuring proper functionality through testing and troubleshooting.
This M/H Engineer role must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and must have a desire to work in a hands-on environment supporting the shop floor, Process MEs, Launch MEs, Tool room, and Operations management.
Individuals must demonstrate experience working within a Quality Management System (QMS) and have a working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles. Qualified candidates must have the ability to work with a manufacturing engineering mindset and the ability to read blueprints and CAD drawings, and use AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Individuals must be self-starters and have a desire to promote an environment of continuous improvement throughout the organization. Experience in any or all of the following is desired: New Product Development (NPD), Electric Vehicles, flow manufacturing, metal fabrication processes, welding, assembly methodologies, or paint systems. Six Sigma green or black belt certification preferred but not required.
