Job summary

LER TechForce seeks a Design Engineer – Interiors in Novi, MI to design, develop, validate and integrate vehicle interior systems and components. You’ll ensure parts meet functional, ergonomic, safety and regulatory requirements while supporting timing and manufacturing feasibility.

Responsibilities include designing door panels, center consoles, headliners and trim, creating CAD models, conducting DFMEA and tolerance analyses, and collaborating with styling, UX, manufacturing, quality,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools CATIA V5/V6, NX, or Creo.
  • Experience with injection-molded plastics and soft trim materials.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and production tolerancing.
  • Understanding of automotive development cycles and launch processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automotive interior components and systems, including: door panels and trim, center consoles, headliners, pillars, and interior trim.
  • Translate styling themes and functional requirements into producible engineering designs.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Conduct concept feasibility studies and trade-off analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive standards and regulations (FMVSS, ECE, OEMspecific).
  • Support prototype builds, tooling development, and production launch activities.
  • Perform DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and validation testing (fit, finish, acoustics).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with styling, UX, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and supply chain; manage supplier technical deliverables and reviews.
  • Support cost reduction, weight optimization, and material selection initiatives.
  • Track issues and lead engineering change management.
  • Participate in vehicle integration reviews and build events.

What you will be doing:

The Interior Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and integration of

vehicle interior systems and components. This role ensures that interior parts meet

functional, aesthetic, ergonomic, safety, quality, cost, and regulatory requirements while

supporting program timing and manufacturing feasibility.

What you'll need to be successful:

Basic:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (CATIA V5/V6, NX, or Creo).
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Injection-molded plastics.
  • Soft trim materials (TPO, leather, fabric, foam).
  • Structural and cosmetic requirements.
  • Experience with GD&T and production tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of automotive development cycles and launch processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skill.
  • Proficient ability to read, speak, and understand English.
  • Take direction from Our Client’s Engineering division to modify components for engineering/design/safety requirements.
