Job summary

Smith & Loveless Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer 1 in Lenexa, KS to collaborate with an experienced engineering team on environmentally focused projects. The role supports manufacturing, testing, and documentation efforts while applying 3D CAD and MathCAD for design calculations.

The candidate will assist senior engineers, develop 3D models, draw 2D layouts, and contribute to cost reduction and quality improvements within a dynamic, manufacturing-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Engineering, preferred Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering.
• 0-3 years’ experience in mechanical engineering design; experience with 3D CAD and AutoCAD drawings.
• Familiarity with MathCAD or similar analytical software; able to perform engineering calculations.
• Understanding of machine design, materials mechanics, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Complete engineer design tasks under supervision, including layout, 3D modeling, and 2D drawings.
• Conduct hands-on testing of new or existing products per protocols.
• Make design changes to improve function, reduce cost, and improve quality.
• Update technical documentation and write minor sections of manuals and specs.
• Support production, quality, field service, and sales with design assistance.
