Job summary

Fimco Inc. in North Sioux City, SD, is seeking a Design Engineer I to support Product Development and Operations in designing and implementing manufactured products.

You will create parts, assemblies and drawings using SolidWorks, Inventor or AutoCAD, plan tests, and coordinate with Production to ensure on-time delivery. Ideal candidates have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and 1–3 years of manufacturing experience, with willingness to work hands-on on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 1–3 years engineering experience in manufacturing environment.
• Experience with welding, sheet metal fabrication, hydraulics or plastics molding preferred.
• Experience with ERP software preferred.
• Experience in Agriculture business a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop product designs relating to defined customer needs including adaptation of existing designs to new-customer applications.
• Plans and directs product testing requirements, if not specified by customer.
• Develop and execute testing procedures to evaluate product and component performance.
• Perform design for manufacturability reviews, BOM management, and cost evaluations.
• Provide engineering support for Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales & Marketing.
• Maintain engineering documents, designs, evaluations, and related materials.
• Coordinate with Production and Operations teams to ensure timely completion of development projects.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Position Summary:

The Design Engineer I will provide support to Product Development and Operations staff through a variety of tasks related to the design, development, and implementation of manufactured products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop product designs relating to defined customer needs including the adaptation of existing designs to new-customer applications.


• Plans and directs product testing requirements, if not previously specified by the customer.


• Develop and execute testing procedures to evaluate the performance of products and components.


• Perform design for manufacturability reviews, Bill of Material management, and cost evaluations.


• Provide engineering support for Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales & Marketing.


• Maintain detailed management of engineering documents, designs, evaluations, and related materials.


• Coordinate with Production and Operations teams to ensure the timely completion of development projects.


• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience


• Proficient creating parts, assemblies, and drawings with design software i.e. SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD


• 1 – 3 years of Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.


• Experience working in welding, sheet metal fabrication, hydraulics or plastics molding is preferred.


• Experience in Agriculture Business a plus.


• Experience with ERP software a plus.

Physical Demands:

Position requires the ability to react, move about, install, remove, replace, and lift objects up to 50 lbs. Must be able to exchange information verbally, detect and observe situations, and work with others. Position may require the use of automobiles, ATV’s, test equipment, mechanical and electrical devices, tools, and computers. At times you will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment when entering production areas and working near moving equipment and machinery. May be exposed to noise, dust, and cold/hot temperatures when working in production or prototype areas.

Work is generally performed in an office environment with some time spent in production environments.
