The Position

Working under the direction of a Senior Engineer, AHA is seeking a Design Engineer (HVAC) for our Boston or Burlington offices. The successful candidate will prepare engineering design concepts for HVAC building systems for moderately complex assignments, including projects in corporate, academic, science & technology, industrial, mission-critical civic & entertainment, healthcare, historic preservation & adaptive reuse, and mixed-use sectors.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical/HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and device layouts
  • Perform calculations such as heating and cooling loads and equipment sizing
  • Consult with Lead Engineer to prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyze existing system operations
  • Research equipment options from catalogs under engineer supervision
  • Understand and apply applicable building codes, consulting with engineers on code requirements
  • Develop and promote company design production standards
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently and accurately
  • Follow specific technical instructions and participate in team efforts
  • Attend client meetings and visit sites as required
Position Qualifications (Required)
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical training/certification
  • One year of HVAC design experience at an MEP firm
  • Revit skills
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical system design and applicable codes
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings
  • Strong analytical skills
Additional Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (BSME or BSMET) or equivalent training/certification
  • Recent graduate or 1-3 years of engineering experience
  • Engineer-in-training status
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office Suite, including Excel and Teams
