Job summary

Replit is seeking a Design Engineer to bridge design and engineering, shaping our design system implementation and front-end architecture. You will drive pixel-perfect production UI and collaborate closely with product designers to deliver scalable components and optimal performance.

You will mentor engineers, establish front-end best practices, and develop tools to streamline the design-to-development workflow, while advancing accessibility and responsive design across the platform.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of front-end development with a strong design sensibility.
• Expert-level knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Deep experience with modern front-end frameworks (React preferred).
• Strong understanding of design systems and component-based architecture.
• Experience implementing complex UI animations and interactions.
• Proven ability to translate design concepts into production-ready code.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with design and engineering teams.
• Experience with accessibility standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement complex UI components and systems balancing aesthetics with performance.
• Lead the technical implementation and evolution of the design system (Replit UI).
• Create prototypes to explore new interaction models and validate concepts.
• Collaborate with product designers to bring designs to life with pixel-perfect precision.
• Establish best practices for front-end development and component architecture.
• Mentor engineers on design principles and implementation techniques.
• Develop tools to improve design-to-development workflow.
• Contribute to design reviews focusing on feasibility and implementation.
• Champion accessible, responsive, and performant interfaces.
