Job summary

SPG, a family-owned manufacturer of commercial cooking equipment, seeks a Design Engineer to own the product line from concept through production in Chicago's Northwest Side.

You will drive CAD design (AutoCAD, Inventor), run lab testing, prototype, and support patent work as a new roadmap launches. Requires 5+ years' experience and an engineering degree, with onsite hours 8:00–4:30.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of product design experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with products combining mechanical and electrical systems.
• CAD proficiency, including AutoCAD and Inventor.
• Experience designing real parts for fabrication including sheet metal forming, welding, and machined parts.
• Comfortable running your own laboratory testing.

Responsibilities

Location: Chicago, IL (Northwest Side) | Schedule: Full-time, onsite | Compensation: $120,000–$130,000

Overview

An established, family-owned manufacturer of commercial cooking equipment with decades of operating history is hiring a Design Engineer to take ownership of its product line. This person will report directly to the COO and carry products from concept through CAD, prototyping, lab testing, agency approval, and into production, with drafting and lab support available so the engineer can focus on engineering work. A new product roadmap is launching now, with several new products planned per year, and patent work is part of the role.

What you'll do

• Develop new products and improve the existing product line
• Run complete testing programs, including extended lab testing on your own designs
• Drive cost reduction into both new and current products
• Coordinate manufacturing launches alongside production and sales teams
• Document inventions to support patent applications
• Write engineering and laboratory test reports

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of product design experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent
• Experience with products combining mechanical and electrical systems
• CAD proficiency, including AutoCAD and Inventor
• Experience designing real parts for real fabrication, including sheet metal forming, welding, and manual and CNC machining
• Comfortable running your own laboratory testing

Preferred qualifications

• Combustion experience is a plus
• Familiarity with UL 197 / NSF standards is a plus

Compensation and benefits

• $120,000–$130,000 depending on experience
• Standard hours are 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, fully onsite in Northwest Chicago, with some flexibility on start time as early as 7:00 a.m.
