Job summary

Ulteig Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer - Battery Energy Storage (BESS) to support utility-scale renewable projects nationwide.

This role can be remote from anywhere in the US or from Ulteig offices, contributing to design packages for BESS facilities 50–500MW+. You will work with clients and internal teams to develop layouts, collection systems, and studies, applying electrical engineering fundamentals and CAD tools.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • 2–4 years of experience in power systems, with strong preference for Renewable BESS design.
  • Experience with CYMCAP, ETAP and/or EasyPower is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; proficient with MS Office.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Revit is a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task, work with teams, and adapt to evolving tech.

Responsibilities

  • Develop renewable project design/construction packages including BESS layouts and studies.
  • Create electrical one-lines, collection systems and equipment installation details for utility-scale systems 50–500MW+.
  • Collaborate with clients to ensure successful project execution.
  • Lead multi-discipline design teams and support early-stage conceptual designs.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, tools and workflows.
  • Turn concepts into fully developed EPC designs, meeting schedules.

Job description

The Opportunity

Ulteig is currently seeking talented and motivated Design Engineer - Battery Energy Storage (BESS) market candidates to support design of utility scale renewable projects nationwide. This role will be a strategic contributor to the growth of our Renewables Lifeline Sector. Qualified candidates will be considered to work remote from any location in the US, or if candidate chooses may work from any of Ulteig's existing office locations.

What You'll Do
  • Work with internal team and external clients to develop renewable project design/construction packages including BESS layouts, electrical one-lines, collection systems, collection system studies, and equipment installation details for Utility Scale renewable systems (50-500MW+).
  • Interact directly with clients for successful project execution
  • Design projects of multi-discipline teams of 2-4 people including a design engineer (focused on the layout, details, etc.), a system studies engineer, with additional support from CAD technicians.
  • Support development of early-stage projects with conceptual designs and material take-offs.
  • Contribute to continual development of internal engineering standards, toolsets and work processes.
  • Turning initial system conceptual ideas into fully developed optimized EPC designs.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Must collaborate well with a team.
What We Expect from You
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering required or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in power systems, with detailed design of Renewable BESS strongly preferred.
  • Experience with CYMCAP preferred.
  • Experience with ETAP and or EasyPower Preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Experience/familiarity with AUTOCAD or Revit is preferred but not necessary.
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to identify improvements and implement them, utilizing support from others
  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Due to the dynamic nature of the renewable energy market, the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
  • Knowledge of BESS and or Wind systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices is strongly preferred.
  • The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within aggressive and compressed schedule.
  • Ability to maintain project schedule and achieve target due dates.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients and external agencies
  • If working remote must have reliable high speed internet capabilities.
  • Up to 15% travel required
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Additional Opportunity Details:

Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $93,800 - $126,900
