Job summary

Frontier Aerospace Corporation in Thousand Oaks, CA, is seeking a Design Engineer to develop detailed component and assembly solutions using 3D modeling to ensure feasibility and producibility of propulsion system hardware.

The role requires a Bachelor's in mechanical or aerospace engineering, 2+ years of design experience (Cre o Parametric and Windchill PLM preferred), and strong GD&T knowledge. The team values collaboration, quality, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 2+ years of professional product design experience, or a master’s degree with product design experience.
  • 3D CAD design experience (Creo Parametric and Windchill PLM preferred).
  • Functional knowledge of aerospace material, treatments, and processes.
  • Able to generate strong design solutions for components, assemblies, tooling, and test fixtures necessary to build propulsion system hard hardware.
  • Strong knowledge and practical ability to implement and analyze GD&T per (ASME Y14.5).
  • Dynamic team player who can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Generate production fidelity detailed component drawings that meet functional, manufacturability, and customer requirements.
  • Apply principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics to components and subsystems to create functional and reliable products that operate safely.
  • Create engineering product definition including models, drawings, and specifications for components, assemblies, and systems, in a timely and effective manner.
  • Interface with vendors and in-house fabrication/assembly teams during design, prototype builds, and hardware validation testing.
  • Employ fully defined dimensioning schemes, use GD&T and statistics to ensure cross product compatibility, and verify mechanical fit using tolerance stack-up analysis tools.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to production effort with engineering change orders to make design changes that improve producibility or reliability.
  • Work collaboratively with all disciplines to prepare and present customer briefings, design reviews, and other pertinent programmatic information.
  • Additional responsibilities may be levied on the Design Engineer to meet critical business needs and operational deadlines. Additional duties can include hardware assembly, validation testing, engineering planning, hardware kitting, courier activities and more.

Design Engineer

At Frontier Aerospace, the role of Design Engineer is central to the development of engineering solutions. Individuals in this role will be responsible for developing detailed component and assembly solutions using sketches and 3D modeling software to model and draft product definition, ensuring feasibility, functionality, and producibility of Propulsion System products and supporting equipment. A successful candidate will be able to creatively and wholistically apply engineering, manufacturing, and analysis principles (Mechanical Design, Structures, Thermal, Materials, Physics, Fluids, Design for Manufacturing) to solve challenging problems. They will also have the necessary communication skills to convey complex engineering challenges in a simplified and concise manner, both to internal and external customers.

Pay: Annual Salary $70,000 - $100,000 DOE

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
