Job summary

Frontier Aerospace Corporation in Thousand Oaks, CA seeks a Senior Design Engineer to lead engineering solutions, ensure design intent aligns with customer requirements and program goals, and drive technical excellence across rocket propulsion products.

The role requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of aerospace materials and GD&T, and the ability to mentor design engineers while delivering manufacturable drawings, specifications, and critical design packages in a full-time, on-site setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or aerospace with 4+ years of professional 3D CAD design experience (Creo Parametric and Windchill PLM preferred).
  • Or master’s degree with 2+ years of professional 3D CAD design experience (Creo Parametric and Windchill PLM preferred).
  • Working knowledge of aerospace material, treatments, and processes.
  • Deep knowledge of aerospace material, treatments, and processes.
  • Ability to design parts, tooling, and test fixtures necessary to build rocket engine hardware.
  • Ability to effectively direct the design of parts, tooling, and test fixtures necessary to build rocket engine hardware.
  • Ability to effectively direct the design of components, assemblies, tooling, fixturing, and aids necessary to build propulsion products, propulsion systems, and supporting equipment.
  • Deep knowledge and familiarity with all aspects of GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5).

Responsibilities

  • Guide the generation of and produce production fidelity detailed component drawings that meet functional and manufacturability, and customer requirements.
  • Apply advanced principles mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics to components and subsystems to create functional and reliable products that operate safely.
  • Direct the creation of, and create engineering drawings and specifications for components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Ensures adherence to industry standards, process and best practices through checking of engineering drawings, models, and specifications.
  • Interface with vendors and customers to address and resolve technical challenges internally and externally.
  • Disposition non-conformances, and Material Reviews, by providing sound engineering rationale, performing root cause analyses, and appropriately evaluating technical/schedule/cost risks.
  • Direct and perform technical support for production and development through engineering change orders to make design changes that improve producibility and reliability.
  • Verify that product definition is fully defined, appropriately dimensioned, technically sound, producible, conforms to internal and external requirements, and has been evaluated for cost savings opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with all disciplines to direct the generation of, and present conceptual design, preliminary design, and critical design packages.
  • Serves as mentor for Design Engineers in areas including; engineering, communication, leadership, and professionalism.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support critical business objectives and meet operational deadlines. These duties may include hardware assembly, validation and qualification testing, engineering planning, hardware kitting, courier activities, and other related tasks. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to contribute across multiple functions to help ensure program success and organizational effectiveness.

Senior Design Engineer

Pay: Annual Salary $110,000 - $160,000 DOE

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.

Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 12 days – totaling 80 hours worked – and have every other Friday off
