Job summary

Metriport is seeking a Design Engineer to understand customer workflows, design the best solutions, and implement your own work. You’ll own broad frontend scope and make consequential decisions with autonomy in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll lead the design system and frontend implementation, collaborating with product and engineering to deliver intuitive, data-heavy interfaces that healthcare teams rely on every day.

Qualifications

• You produce Figma work that is considered and defensible — with clear opinions on typography, hierarchy, and interaction patterns.
• Frontend fluency: you understand React well enough to lead implementation and run reviews — component architecture, rendering behavior, state management.
• Pragmatism: you know what to polish and what to ship, balancing craft and speed.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the design system.
• Establish a coherent design language — components, spacing, typography, color — that is simple.
• Lead frontend implementation: set direction on the frontend, review implementation against design intent, and write production code in React.
• Talk to, and advocate for, users: understand workflows and drive toward optimal solutions.
• Solve data-dense UI problems: build interfaces that surface high-volume medical data and make tradeoffs when needed.

About You

We're a small, high-output team, mostly former founders including YC alumni, and we operate with real autonomy and almost no bureaucracy. We hire on competence, not pedigree. Leaders are in the office six days a week, and we generally expect the team to be available six days a week too. Not because we count hours, but because there's always more wood to chop when revolutionizing how tomorrow’s healthcare providers deliver care to their patients today. We trust our team to take the time off they need and we've never said no to a time off request.

The Role

As a Design Engineer at Metriport, you'll spend your time understanding customer workflows, designing the best solution to those problems, and implementing your own designs. If you're someone who is excited by broad ownership and making consequential decisions — while taking on work that others might consider way too much — you might be a good fit.

What You'll Do

Lead frontend implementation Set direction on the frontend, review implementation against design intent, and write production code where it matters most. You're strong enough in React to be the authority in the room.

Talk to, and advocate for, users Understand their workflows, form an opinionated view on the right solution, and drive toward it.

Solve data-dense UI problems Build interfaces that surface complex, high-volume medical data. Make hard layout and performance tradeoffs and know when good enough is correct and when it isn't.
