Job summary

Sulzer in Portland, OR is seeking a Design Engineer to contribute to the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of plant buildings and pump machinery. You will help establish standards and support engineering teams with design studies and BOMs.

Initially focused on centrifugal pumps and components, you will work under senior engineers, read drawings, perform calculations, and help ensure quality and efficiency across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent training and experience.
• 0-3 years experience in the design of rotating equipment or equivalent experience.
• Good computer skills, mechanical drafting skills using CAD and reading/writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares engineering details and drawings using CAD, Bills of Materials and engineering specifications to enable the complete manufacturing of pump products.
• Performs designs and layouts of standardized pump components, assemblies, and equipment.
• Reads and interprets drawings, specifications, procedures, and related materials.
• Checks and approves drawings prepared by CAD drafters.
• Performs design calculations to validate design layouts.
• Participates in administrative functions of the department, including order and design review meetings.

About the role

Job Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of plant buildings and machinery. This includes establishing standards for pollution control, testing, and maintenance, and recommending new equipment and systems.
This job profile is intended for early-career professionals who apply broad theoretical knowledge and require the ability to investigate and analyze problems. Solutions are typically discussed/verified with a more senior member.
SUMMARY:

Assists in the design of centrifugal pumps, components, and equipment. Prepares basic design studies, calculations, drawings, Bills of Materials, and other engineering documents in accordance with customer requirements and department policies and procedures. Works under the technical direction of Lead Engineers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepares engineering details and drawings using CAD, Bills of Materials and engineering specifications to enable the complete manufacturing of pump products.
• Performs designs and layouts of standardized pump components, assemblies, and equipment.
• Reads and interprets drawings, specifications, procedures, and related materials.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Adheres to company and department policies, procedures, and standards
• Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide LEAN and EHS Management System which includes following all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures. Supports and cooperates in company-wide Quality Management effort.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
