Job summary

Insight Global is partnering with a large local utility in Northern and Central California to secure Design Engineers for electrical substation projects. The role focuses on developing engineering designs for substation modifications, capacity additions, reliability improvements, and grid modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate has utility design experience, AutoCAD proficiency, and a strong understanding of substation engineering and design practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
• 4-5+ years of utility design experience.
• Experience using AutoCAD for engineering design.
• Valid California Class C Driver's License by start date.
• Ability to develop and review electrical design packages and supporting documentation.
• Strong communication and coordination skills with cross-functional project teams.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment and travel to project/substation sites (≈10%).

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs and drawing packages for electrical substation projects.
• Prepare design calculations, technical documentation, bills of materials, reports, and schedules.
• Support conceptual and detailed engineering design development.
• Coordinate with internal engineering groups, project managers, construction teams, and external stakeholders.
• Conduct design reviews and provide technical support throughout project execution.
• Complete engineering deliverables per project schedules and quality standards.
• Support field visits, site investigations, and construction-related activities.

• Support field visits, site investigations, and construction-related engineering activities as needed

Compensation

$45/hr to $75/hr.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
