The New York City Department of Transportation is seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer to join the Signals Street Lighting Engineering Design Unit, supporting bus priority projects and transit infrastructure across the city.
You will prepare CAD drawings, perform traffic studies, and coordinate with the MTA and other partners while ensuring ADA, MUTCD, and Vision Zero compliance within the NYC Streets Plan.
Transit Development (TD) is responsible for developing public transit-supportive street infrastructure and policies in order to improve mobility for all New Yorkers. The unit manages the bus-related components of the NYC Streets Plan, including the Better Buses and transit policy initiatives, and develops location-specific projects to help the quality and safety of bus operations and to improve pedestrian access to transit. TD also serves as a resource to the agency on public transit-related matters, including acting as one of the key points of contact with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
The Division of Traffic Operations is seeking skilled and dedicated Assistant Civil Engineer to join our Signals Street Lighting Engineering Design Unit. The Assistant Civil Engineer performs engineering work related to the planning, design, analysis, and implementation of projects within the Bus Action Streets Plan. Work involves technical support for bus priority street improvements, including geometric design, traffic engineering analysis, field inspections, and preparation of engineering documents. The employee assists in ensuring compliance with NYC DOT standards, applicable codes, and safety requirements.

Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of the appointment in this position.
