Job summary

Morton Industries, LLC is seeking a Tool Designer to plan, design, and integrate tooling, fixtures, dies, and related equipment across our manufacturing processes. You will partner with Engineering, Tooling, Maintenance, Quality, and Operations to develop solutions that improve process capability, reduce costs, and support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Syteline ERP is a plus.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop detailed drawings, prints, and specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze manufacturing methods per customer specs.
  • Design tooling, jigs, fixtures, dies, and support equipment.
  • Develop detailed drawings, prints, specifications for tooling and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Operations to improve quality and process capability.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance on new equipment installations and troubleshooting.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing time, material usage, and costs.
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives driven by customer requirements or organizational goals.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes for equipment, tooling, and resources for process improvements.
  • Provide accurate technical information and documentation to support work instructions.
  • Apply a working knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements within responsibilities.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to tooling and processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00

POSITION SUMMARY

The Tool Designer plans, designs, and integrates tooling, fixtures, dies, and related equipment used throughout Morton Industries’ manufacturing processes. This position partners closely with Engineering, Tooling, Maintenance, Quality, and Operations to develop effective manufacturing solutions, improve process capability, reduce costs, and support the ongoing improvement of production processes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Research and analyze manufacturing methods required to produce products in accordance with customer requirements and specifications.
  • Design tooling, jigs, fixtures, dies, and support equipment necessary to meet manufacturing and product requirements.
  • Develop detailed drawings, prints, specifications, and other documentation required for the fabrication of tooling and equipment.
  • Partner with supervisors, Engineering, Quality, and Operations to improve product quality, manufacturability, and process capability.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance on new equipment installations, modifications, and complex troubleshooting needs.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing time, material usage, and overall production costs.
  • Support and implement cost-reduction initiatives driven by customer requirements or organizational goals.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes for equipment, machinery, tooling, and other resources required for process improvements.
  • Provide accurate technical information and documentation to support the development and maintenance of controlled work instructions.
  • Apply a working knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements within assigned responsibilities.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to tooling, equipment, manufacturing processes, safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tooling, fixture, jig, and die design within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop detailed technical drawings, prints, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works in both office and manufacturing environments. While performing duties on the manufacturing floor, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery, noise, and other conditions typical of an industrial manufacturing environment. Required personal protective equipment must be worn when applicable.

QualificationsPREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelors in Engineering, Design, or equivalent.

3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment. Multi-plant is a plus.

Experience with a manufacturing ERP software. Syteline ERP is a plus.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

High level of proficiency using spreadsheet applications such as Excel, including the use of pivot
