Job summary

Gonzalez Companies is seeking a Design Engineer to join our growing civil engineering team. You will develop designs and construction documents for infrastructure and site development projects, including water/wastewater and transportation initiatives.

The role requires 3–10 years of engineering design experience, EIT certification, and preferably PE licensure. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software is essential, with field work opportunities and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 3–10 years of engineering design experience in civil infrastructure, transportation, site development, or water/wastewater projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain licensure, preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other applicable analysis or modeling tools.
  • Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience preparing construction documents, technical specifications, and permit-related documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Willingness to perform periodic field work, site visits, and inspections as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering designs, plans, specifications, and construction documents for infrastructure, site development, water/wastewater, and transportation projects.
  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and modeling to support design decisions, including grading and drainage design, hydraulic modeling, and utility design.
  • Prepare construction drawings and technical documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams including civil, structural, environmental, mechanical, and electrical professionals.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Assist with technical reports, engineering studies, permit applications, and supporting documentation.
  • Support project managers with project planning, scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and tracking.
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and data collection to support project development.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to address technical questions and resolve challenges.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals to ensure conformance with design intent during construction.
  • Identify innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective engineering solutions that add value to clients.
  • Maintain accurate project records and follow quality control procedures.

We are seeking a talented Design Engineer to join our growing team and help deliver impactful infrastructure projects that improve the communities we serve.

This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with 3 to 10 years of experience who is looking to expand their technical expertise, take on additional project responsibilities, and contribute to meaningful civil infrastructure projects. You will work alongside experienced engineering professionals while gaining exposure to project design, client service, and project delivery. Candidates with experience in site/civil engineering, transportation, water/wastewater, or utility infrastructure are encouraged to apply.

Your Primary Responsibilities Will Include

What You'll Need
