About Hollman

Hollman, Inc. is the world’s largest manufacturer of custom wood lockers, headquartered in Irving, Texas. For more than 45 years we have designed and built premium locker and cabinetry solutions for country clubs, golf and resort properties, luxury spas and health clubs, collegiate and professional athletics, and corporate workplaces. Our reputation is built on craftsmanship, engineering precision, and on-time delivery.

Position Summary

The Design Engineer translates customer requirements and design intent into accurate, manufacturable engineering documentation for Hollman’s custom wood locker and casework products. Working within the R&D and Engineering team, you will produce 3D models, shop drawings, and cut lists that drive our CNC-based production floor. As our products increasingly integrate electronic access, lighting, power, and connected features, this role also contributes to the electromechanical design, testing, and integration of those subsystems into our wood structures — an expanding part of the position with room to grow. This is a hands‑on role for an early-career engineer who wants to own real product from concept through the manufacturing line.

Key Responsibilities
Product & Manufacturing Design (primary)
  • Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings for custom wood lockers, cabinetry, and millwork using CAD software.
  • Convert architectural drawings, sales specifications, and customer requirements into complete, buildable engineering packages including dimensioned drawings, cut lists, and bills of material (BOM).
  • Generate and optimize CNC nesting and machining files, coordinating with the production floor to ensure designs are manufacturable and material‑efficient.
  • Select appropriate materials, hardware, laminates, veneers, and finishes based on specifications, durability, and cost targets.
  • Review designs for manufacturability (DFM), tolerance stack‑up, and adherence to Hollman quality standards.
Electromechanical Design, Testing & Integration (growing)
  • Support the mechanical integration of electronic subsystems — electronic/RFID/keypad/mobile locks and access control, integrated lighting, USB/device charging, and sensors — into locker and casework designs.
  • Design and detail mounting, routing, wire management, and access provisions so electronic components fit cleanly and serviceably within the wood structure.
  • Assist with bench, functional, and durability testing of electromechanical assemblies; document results and support design revisions.
  • Coordinate with electronics/hardware suppliers and internal teams to integrate purchased subsystems and validate fit, form, and function.
Cross‑functional
  • Support prototyping and first‑article builds; incorporate feedback from production, quality, and installation into revised designs.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, revision control, and part/product data in ERP/PLM systems.
  • Collaborate with technical sales, project management, and procurement to resolve design questions and keep projects on schedule.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 0–5 years of experience in product, mechanical, or manufacturing design (internship and co‑op experience counts).
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, or AutoCAD) and the ability to produce clean, dimensioned production drawings.
  • Working understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Basic familiarity with electromechanical concepts — reading wiring/connection diagrams, mounting and integrating electronic components, and supporting functional testing.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and shop drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and clear cross‑functional communication.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. and able to work onsite full‑time in Irving, TX.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience designing wood products, casework, cabinetry, or millwork, and familiarity with plywood, MDF, solid wood, and high‑pressure laminates.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of CNC machining, nesting software, and woodworking manufacturing processes.
  • Direct experience integrating electronic locks/access control, lighting, power/charging, or sensors into products or furniture.
  • Exposure to electromechanical testing methods and test documentation.
  • Exposure to ERP/PLM systems, lean manufacturing, and design‑for‑manufacturability.
Success Metrics (First 12 Months)
  • Drawing and BOM accuracy — percentage of engineering packages released error‑free to production.
  • Engineering turnaround time from assignment to released, production‑ready package.
  • Successful integration and test pass rate of electronic subsystems into assigned designs.
  • Material efficiency — yield improvement / scrap reduction on assigned designs.
  • Reduction in production rework or RFIs attributable to design errors.

Physical & Work Environment

Combination of office, engineering lab/bench, and manufacturing‑floor environment. Requires occasional time on the production floor near machinery, hands‑on work with prototypes and electromechanical assemblies, and the ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Standard onsite schedule at the Irving, TX facility.
