Job summary

Software Placement Group is seeking a Design Engineer to design and redesign major agricultural equipment, reporting to the Engineering Manager. This role emphasizes quality, safety, and innovation within a manufacturing environment.

The candidate will use Creo for feed mixer projects, collaborate across product management, sales, manufacturing, and customers, and support testing and tooling efforts. BS in Engineering and 1+ year experience required.

Qualifications

• BS in Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 1+ year designing agricultural or heavy mobile equipment (internships count).
• Proficient in 3D CAD; Creo used by the team.

Responsibilities

• Design and redesign feed mixers for livestock using Creo on a project basis.
• Develop and evaluate product designs based on customer needs, manufacturability, cost and safety.
• Develop design specifications with product management, sales/marketing, manufacturing and customers.

Location: Brodhead, WI | Schedule: Full-time, on-site

Overview

Our client is an established manufacturer with a long operating history in the agricultural equipment industry, producing large-scale equipment used by farms and livestock operations nationwide. The company is seeking a Design Engineer to design and redesign major pieces of agricultural equipment, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. This role plays a key part in maintaining the quality, safety, and innovation of the company's product line.

What you'll do

• Design and redesign feed mixers for livestock using Creo, working on a project basis
• Develop and evaluate product designs based on customer needs, manufacturability, cost, and safety
• Develop design specifications in collaboration with product management, sales and marketing, manufacturing, product development teams, product/applications testing, and customers on assigned projects
• Develop test plans and direct testing of designs with test personnel
• Set product quality and tolerance specifications for designs
• Design and/or select hydraulic, power transmission, and structural components
• Work with manufacturing to develop tooling and new manufacturing processes as assigned
• Develop deep knowledge of the company's products by attending trade shows, engaging with customers, understanding service requirements, and monitoring competitors
• Stay current on new products, technologies, and competitive equipment in the industry and share findings with company personnel

Required qualifications

• BS Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering
• 1+ year of experience designing agricultural or heavy mobile equipment (internship experience counts)
• Good 3D CAD skills; the team uses Creo

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of metal fabrication, machining, and welding would be very helpful
• A farm background would be wonderful
