Level99 in Boston is seeking a Design Engineer to lead the development, design, and prototyping of its physical game content. You will work with project management, creative, and software teams to ensure architectural and gameplay details are realized.
The role requires a strong background in mechanical design, woodworking, and low voltage systems, with ownership in a fast-paced entertainment environment and hands-on fabrication experience.
Level99 is a sprawling playground designed for adults with over 50 life‑size mini‑games where Players dodge axes, crack puzzles, and outsmart real‑world challenges. Each game lasts about 1–4 minutes and is built for 2–6 people to play together. One ticket to Level99 unlocks access to all of our games including Challenge Rooms, Player‑vs‑Player duels, and an art scavenger hunt. The Design Engineer is responsible for the development, design, and planning for best‑in‑class physical game content. Level99 Engineers identify critical aspects of new challenges and create prototypes to assess both the technical and experiential risks presented. They work closely with the project management, creative, and software development teams to ensure that scenic details and important gameplay moments are successfully executed. The Design Engineer drafts drawing packages that detail the construction of rooms for both in‑house and external fabrication, and oversees the production and final assembly process, continually improving designs after installation. This is a “working” design engineer role, with the Design Engineer responsible for managing and organizing the work, as well as prototyping and implementing finished solutions directly.
$90,000 - $120,000 a year
