Job description

About LearnVector

For most of history, great teaching has been scarce. A brilliant teacher who knows you well, adapts to how you learn, and patiently stays with you until you get there — almost no one has had that. AI changes what's possible. LearnVector, founded by Andrew Ng, is building a trustworthy AI guide for learning, with a mission to accelerate human development. We're a small, fast-moving team working on-site in Mountain View, California and backed by a $100 million investment from Coursera.

About the role

You will design and build the front-end experiences learners use every day: the one-to-one learning experience itself, from a learner's first session to mastery. You sit at the intersection of product design and front-end engineering: close enough to design to know what makes an interface feel right, and close enough to the code to ship it.

Every learner's experience is generated and adapted for them. Your job is to make that feel like one considered product: a design language, the components that implement it, and the interaction details that make a personalized experience feel intentional. You'll own experiences end to end — design, implementation, and iteration against how real learners use them.

What you will do
  • Design and build front-end experiences that learners use to learn, practice, get feedback, and see their progress, implemented to production quality
  • Create the product's design language and its implementation: typography, layout, color, motion, and the component system the rest of the team builds on
  • Design in the medium: sketch in code and put production work in front of learners and the team within days, then iterate from what you see
  • Set and hold the quality bar for the front end: performance, accessibility, responsiveness across devices, and the interaction details that make the product feel finished
  • Work with learners directly: watch sessions, run pilots, and turn what you observe into the next iteration
  • Work daily with the founding team, including Andrew, on what a one-to-one learning experience should look and feel like
What you bring
  • AI-native: you default to AI-assisted design and coding and building automations in everything you do, you have an appetite for and record of experimenting with the newest AI tools for design and engineering
  • A portfolio of shipped products where you designed the interface and built it yourself, and can walk us through the decisions on both sides
  • Strong product design craft: typography, layout, color, motion, and the interaction judgment to make a complex product feel simple
  • Strong front-end engineering: TypeScript, React or similar, CSS at a systems level, animation, accessibility, and performance; comfort owning front-end systems end to end in production
  • Consumer product sensibility: you understand what makes a product something people come back to, and you sweat the details users can't name but always feel
Nice to haves
  • Early-stage startup experience — you've been one of the first designers or engineers somewhere and know what that demands
  • Understanding of brand: how a visual identity, tone, and product design language hold together across a website, a product, and marketing
  • Experience building or maintaining a design system that other people ship on
  • Experience designing conversational or voice interfaces
  • Motion or generative work: real-time graphics, video, or generated visuals in a product
  • Marketing experience, such as designing and building landing pages, campaigns, or brand assets that had to perform
What success looks like

In your first 30 days, you will have shipped visible improvements to the product's front end and put the component and motion foundations in place that the team builds on.

In your first 6 months, the product will look and feel like one product, with a design system the whole team ships on and learners describing the experience as personal.
