A leading media company is seeking a Reporter for Correctional News, responsible for producing both digital and print content. This remote position involves managing editorial workflows, engaging with sources, and promoting articles through newsletters and social media. The ideal candidate has a strong writing background and significant experience in niche reporting, particularly in design and construction topics.
Job Title: Reporter, Correctional News
WMH Media, Inc., is a national media company focusing on the design and construction for key markets: education, justice, healthcare and green building / sustainability. We offer digital and print publications. This role will oversee all the content production for one of our four publications, Correctional News, focusing on the design, construction, news, and improvements of facilities across the country. The reporter will be responsible for producing digital content for the website, contributing to print productions and managing the company’s social media page.
Responsibilities
·Create and produce digital content on Correctional News platforms.
·Ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of all published materials.
·Update editorial calendar and workflow with breaking news stories, future placements, etc.
·Collaborate with writers, editors, and other contributors as needed.
·Attend editorial meetings and work with editor on assignments and deadlines.
·Monitor industry trends and adjust editorial strategies accordingly.
·Produce and/or manage posting to all websites.
·Engaging with sources as needed for article development.
·Contribute to newsletter content across publication monthly.
Specific Tasks
DIGITAL / PRINT CONTENT
·Responsible for providing website content every week.
·Work with web manager to manage website accuracy and monitor functionality.
·Adhere to word count budget and assignments
·Prepare research for multimedia interviews
SOCIAL MEDIA
·Manage company LinkedIn page
NEWSWIRE / EMAILS
·Working with the internal team, coordinate content promotion through newsletters (monthly) and email blasts (as needed / scheduled).
EVENTS
·Work with VP of sales and marketing to contribute any digital content and email copy needed for hosted events.
·Be available as needed to travel to trade events, hosted events, interviews, etc.
Qualifications
Ideal candidate is a strong writer, researcher, and communicator with experience / understanding of the design, construction, or engineering market, and/or experience as a reporter covering niche topics and markets. Experience as a marketing pursuit specialist, marketing manager for an architecture, contractor or construction service provider, a previous reporter or editor, or a communications professional with a strong ability to communicate timely and relevant news, project updates, personal profile pieces, and more, is ideal. Additional qualifications include:
·Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, or business
·2-3 years of experience in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
·Attention to detail and proven time management skills
·Ability to communicate effectively with internal staff and clients
·Drive and passion to produce compelling content
This is a remote position. Salary range is between $60,000-$70,000.
