Job summary

Reframe Systems seeks a Design Automation Engineer to build CAD automation around Onshape, FeatureScript, and API integrations. You will contribute to a workflow that delivers 10x more detail in 1/10th the time, downstream of architectural design toward the factory floor.

You will collaborate with design engineering to create high-value features, ensure engineering practices, and support production reliability from our Andover, MA microfactory to North America’s expanding pipeline.

Qualifications

• BS in mechanical, civil, electrical engineering, or computer science.
• 2+ years hands-on experience with parametric design in Onshape, Fusion, or SolidWorks.
• Experience building custom features in Onshape with FeatureScript.
• General coding experience in Go, Python, or C#.
• Experience using coding agents to build prototypes and iterate quickly.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain custom Onshape features in FeatureScript for production use.
• Augment Onshape workflows by building tooling and integrating with external systems via APIs.
• Expand capabilities of our MCP modeling on top of Onshape APIs.
• Collaborate with design engineers to develop and implement end-to-end features.
• Build automation that integrates MEP constraints and device/fixture placement.
• Develop automated code‑compliance checks (outlet placement, egress, tempered windows).
• Partner with interdisciplinary teams to improve design and manufacturing throughput.

What We're Looking For

Our mission hinges on being able to create building designs with 10x more detail than typical architectural sets in 1/10th the time. We're looking for a Design Automation Engineer to build the CAD automation for that workflow. You'll write custom features in and around Onshape (FeatureScript and API), and back them with real engineering practices, so the tools you ship run reliably in production and empower the design engineers by reducing manual workload. Your work sits downstream of architectural design and feeds our CAD-to-fab pipeline, all the way to the factory floor.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain custom Onshape features in FeatureScript that run in production and hold up to daily use.
• Augment Onshape workflows by building out tooling and integrating with systems outside of Onshape via Onshape APIs.
• Expanding the capabilities and uses (skills) of our modeling MCP built on top of Onshape APIs.
• Work with the design engineering team to develop high value features end to end: discover their pain points, design and implement solutions, integrate into their daily workflows, and iterate.
• Build automation that integrates MEP constraints and augments device and fixture placement.
• Build automated code‑compliance checking, e.g. outlet placement, egress, tempered windows requirements.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to raise efficiency and throughput across design and manufacturing.

Qualifications

Prior knowledge or experience in architecture or construction is not required. We’ll get you up to speed.

Must Have

• BS in mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering, or computer science.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience with parametric design (Onshape, Autodesk Fusion, SolidWorks, etc.).
• Experience building custom features in Onshape with FeatureScript.
• General coding experience, ideally in Go, Python, or C#.
• Experience using coding agents to build prototypes, work with others, and get to a solution quickly. A 0‑to‑1 builder.

Nice to Have

• Experience with the Onshape API or building integrations and apps beyond FeatureScript.
• General software engineering experience: automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and alerting, debugging and root cause analysis.
• Experience in a manufacturing, DFMA, or a hardware product setting.
• Familiarity with CAD‑to‑fabrication workflows (CAM, CNC).
