Job description

Deserts Keeper of Reptiles & Amphibians - Seasonal

Join us as a Deserts Keeper of Reptiles & Amphibians - Seasonal at Indianapolis Zoo.

Position Details

This is a seasonal role for the 2025 season, working in our Deserts biome with reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) from May to November, with a pay rate of $13.00/hr. It requires working weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.

Compensation

Base pay range: $13.00/hr - $13.00/hr

Ideal Candidate

Passionate about animals and conservation, team-oriented, professional in appearance and attitude, with prior experience working with reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals preferred. Ability to work outdoors in various environmental conditions is necessary.

Requirements
  • Minimum of one year animal care experience, preferably with reptiles; college coursework in a related field may substitute.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and exert force occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate ladders, steps, and uneven terrain safely.
  • Excellent visual acuity and communication skills, including use of two-way radios.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in life sciences is preferred.
  • Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemicals, following safety guidelines.
