Job summary

ERM in Beatty, NV is hiring Desert Tortoise Field Biologists for a full-time, field-based 8-week assignment (60 hours/week). The role conducts pre-project desert tortoise surveys and supports field data collection and reporting.

Responsibilities include desktop reviews of resources, GPS data collection, daily reporting, and potential travel. A BS in a natural science and MSHA certification are preferred; tortoise protocol familiarity is required.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in a natural science field preferred.
  • Must have or be able to obtain MSHA certification.
  • Desert Tortoise Council Training is a plus.
  • Minimum of three plus years of projects that surveyed, monitored and mitigated for target species; one year of experience conducting presence/absence surveys for desert tortoise is required.
  • Familiarity with desert tortoise survey protocols.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain. Must be able to walk approximately 5km per day in desert conditions.
  • Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
  • Must have a strong attentional to detail in documentation of work.
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Work schedule may include weekends and/or over-time.
  • Desire to work in the field for extended period and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
  • Demonstrated independent and effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Desert Tortoise Field Biologists (Field Based) (Biotech)


ERM is hiring experienced Desert Tortoise Field Biologists to conduct desert tortoise surveys to conduct pre-project protocol-level surveys for desert tortoises. This is a full-time (60 hours/week), limited-term role for a duration of 8 weeks in Beatty, NV.

  • Monitoring efforts include greater desert tortoise for habitat activity in Southern Nevada.

  • Electronic data collection.

  • Handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS data collection.

Pay Transparency

For the Desert Tortoise Field Biologist position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $73,148 - $82,290, $35.16/hr - $39.56/hr, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee's fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).
