Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, AR is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Specialist – Sterile Compounding to oversee cleanroom processes and ensure compliance with USP <797> and USP <800>. You will coordinate environmental monitoring and competency validation while partnering with Pharmacy Leadership to maintain regulatory readiness and patient safety.

Requires high school diploma (GED), CPhT certification, and preferred associate degree.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's degree in a related field recommended.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) – PTCB required.
• Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (AR State Board) certification required.
• Advanced CSPT and CSPT® certifications recommended.

Responsibilities

• Serves as subject matter expert for sterile compounding operations in compliance with USP <797> and USP <800> standards.
• Coordinates environmental monitoring activities including air sampling and documentation tracking.
• Supports aseptic technique competency validation including media fills and gloved fingertip testing.
• Assists with cleanroom workflow optimization and standard work development to improve efficiency and reduce contamination risk.
• Collaborates with Pharmacy Leadership and Quality teams to prepare for regulatory inspections and internal audits.
• Participates in investigation and documentation of sterile compounding deviations and implements corrective actions as directed.
• Maintains policies and procedures aligned with current Board of Pharmacy and USP standards.
• Serves as a technical resource and mentor for sterile compounding technicians.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist – Sterile Compounding serves as a technical expert within sterile compounding operations and supports the pharmacy’s compliance with USP <797>, USP <800>, and applicable state and federal regulations. This role provides advanced oversight of cleanroom processes, environmental monitoring coordination, and competency validation activities to ensure safe, accurate, and compliant sterile medication preparation. The Specialist partners with pharmacy leadership to strengthen regulatory readiness, enhance workflow efficiency, and promote a culture of quality and patient safety. This position functions as a mentor and resource for sterile compounding staff and plays a key role in continuous improvement initiatives within sterile operations.

• 1. Serves as subject matter expert for sterile compounding operations in compliance with USP <797> and USP <800> standards.
• 2. Coordinates environmental monitoring activities including viable and non-viable air sampling, surface sampling, and documentation tracking.
• 3. Supports aseptic technique competency validation including media fills, gloved fingertip testing, and direct observation auditing.
• 4. Assists with cleanroom workflow optimization and standard work development to improve efficiency and reduce contamination risk.
• 5. Collaborates with Pharmacy Leadership and Quality teams to prepare for regulatory inspections and internal audits.
• 6. Participates in investigation and documentation of sterile compounding deviations and implements corrective actions as directed.
• 7. Assists in maintaining policies and procedures aligned with current Board of Pharmacy and USP standards.
