Job summary

TETRA Technologies, Inc. seeks a field technician to support remote water treatment and desalination operations in West Texas. You will operate, monitor, and troubleshoot plant equipment, perform routine maintenance, collect samples, and document results while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in water treatment or industrial maintenance, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work rotating shifts in a field environment with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in a related technical field preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in water treatment, desalination, industrial manufacturing or processing, oil and gas production, or related fields.
  • Mechanically inclined with hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Willing to work rotating shifts including nights and overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and support a remote West Texas desalination facility to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize plant equipment, including pumps, valves, filters, piping systems, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, routine equipment inspections, basic repairs, and field troubleshooting to maximize equipment reliability and plant uptime.
  • Collect water and process samples and perform testing, sampling, and process monitoring to support water treatment and desalination operations.
  • Monitor filtration, chemical injections, flow rates, pressure, meters, gauges, and other operating conditions; identify irregularities and take appropriate action.
  • Use basic math skills to support flow rate calculations, measurements, chemical dosing, and other operational calculations.
  • Receive, label, document, and prepare samples for analysis while maintaining accurate operational records.
  • Complete operational reports, maintenance documentation, inspection logs, and other required records accurately and on time.
  • Work independently in a fast-paced field environment while demonstrating strong ownership, initiative, and sound problem-solving judgment.
  • Ensure all activities follow EPA, OSHA, company safety, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Communicate equipment status, process concerns, maintenance needs, and operational updates to supervisors, operations teams, and external partners.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment and support overall plant reliability, uptime, and operational performance.

Requirements:

  • EDUCATION: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; Associate degree in a related technical field preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE:
    • 3-5 years’ experience in water treatment, desalination, industrial manufacturing or processing, oil and gas production, midstream operations, water management, utilities, power generation, municipal operations, mechanical maintenance, field service, or military mechanical/technical operations.
  • Mechanically inclined with hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial equipment, pumps, valves, filters, piping systems, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and mechanical systems.
  • OTHER:
    • Submit to and satisfactorily complete pre-employment background, medical, alcohol, and drug screening.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Able and willing to work a rotating shift schedule that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime, if applicable.
  • Able and willing to work independently in remote field locations and collaboratively with operations and maintenance teams.
