Job summary

DOCS Dermatology Group in Morgantown, WV seeks a Medical Assistant to support clinicians in general clinical tasks and patient care under supervision of the Practice Manager and physicians.

You will verify patient information, enter medical history into the EHR, assist during exams, manage supplies, prepare patients for procedures, and help with phlebotomy and wound care while upholding HIPAA and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent certificate.
• Prior experience in medical office.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding (preferred).
• Familiarity with the ModMed EMA EMR (preferred).
• Thorough understanding of HIPAA law.
• Some offices may require travel.
• Team player.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history and confirming purpose of visit.
• Enter medical history and visit information into EHR.
• Escort patients to exam room.
• Ask pertinent medical questions and data entry into EHR.
• Prepare patient for exam by providing drapes and materials for visit.
• Taking photographs.
• Assist physician during medical examination and procedures.
• Phone in prescriptions to pharmacies.
• Schedule medical procedures.
• Instruct patients on proper usage of medications.
• Change wound dressings, remove sutures, and in-office phlebotomy.
• Collect, log and package lab specimens for transport.
• Sterilize medical instruments.
• Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
• Complete phone triage.
• Notify patients of pathology and lab results.
• Scribe office visits.
• Administer IM, SQ, and topical medications as ordered.
• Perform nurse visit appointments including sutures, UVB, Excimer, Patch Testing, Biologic injections.
• Maintain safe, secure and healthy work environment by standards and procedures.
