Overview

As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post‑offer criminal history background check, physical examination and drug screen. All employees must also submit proof of identity and employment eligibility. The role involves the day‑to‑day operation of the county jail, providing charge and custody of the adult detention facility, enforcing rules and regulations, ensuring inmates’ rights are protected under the U.S. Constitution, transporting prisoners to appear before a judge, and maintaining housing at minimum and maximum security levels.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day‑to‑day operation of the county jail and ensure efficient daily functions.
• Interact with inmates and enforce the rules and regulations of the Wyandotte County Detention Center.
• Ensure the rights of inmates are protected under the constitution of the United States.
• Transport prisoners to appear before a judge or stand trial for crimes committed.
• Maintain housing at minimum‑ and maximum‑security levels.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 21 years old by date of hire.
• Valid driver’s license.
• United States Citizen.
• No misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury, or false statements as outlined in Kansas statute (KSA74‑5605).
• No chronic record of misdemeanors, felony convictions, or convictions of domestic‑violence related offenses.
• No tattoos on the head, face, neck, or hands.

Salary Range
