Deputy Sheriff - Reserve
Pay Rate: Min to Mid Range; Time Type: Variable time
The Reserve Division of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) continuously seeks qualified peace officers who meet the high standards necessary to become a Bexar County Reserve Deputy Sheriff. Reserve deputies supplement sworn full‑time law‑enforcement personnel of the BCSO. Like full‑time deputies, reserve deputies are professionally trained and duly commissioned as peace officers through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, are armed, uniformed and required to maintain the same high standards of training as their full‑time counterparts. Reserve deputies are assigned to duties in patrol, Criminal Investigation Division (CID), criminal and civil warrants, court security, school program (priority), and special assignments based on individual deputy expertise and unit need. Reserve deputies have the same powers of arrest as full‑time deputies and must meet the same hiring, background, medical, and psychological standards as full‑time deputies. A complete background check, polygraph, and personal interview are required.
All new deputies must complete a training program prior to assignment. All training with the BCSO is free of charge to reserve deputies.
Assignments may include office or field environments with exposure to unusual elements, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, and unpleasant odors. Work may involve hazards or physical risks requiring safety precautions. Physical requirements include occasional lifting or carrying of 5–10 lbs.; visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Deputies perform activities such as handling, walking, sitting, standing, bending and reaching to perform essential functions.
Bexar County offers a competitive salary, retirement, and benefits, including benefits for a spouse/plus one and dependent children designed to support work/life balance.
Bexar County is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to workplace diversity, providing equal opportunities for protected veterans and individuals with disabilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
