Qualifications

  • High school graduation or its equivalency and two years of college or two years of full-time work experience.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Must meet State Law Enforcement Standards Board education requirements within 5 years of hire.
  • United States Citizen; Wisconsin driver’s license valid or eligible; clean driving record; night/weekend availability; 24 hour on-call status.
  • Excellent physical condition; vision and hearing within normal limits; no significant eye disease; good coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Process inmates booked into jail and maintain security; monitor health and welfare; inspect housing units and property.
  • Enforce jail rules; respond to emergencies; assist with mental health crises and medical emergencies; escort inmates to court when needed.
  • Enforce traffic laws and maintain flow; respond to emergency calls and document investigations; operate department equipment and tools.
  • Provide witness testimony in court; de-escalate conflicts using communication skills; participate in community law enforcement programs.
