Job summary

Cook County Sheriff's Department in Grand Marais, MN is seeking a Deputy Sheriff to enforce laws, respond to calls, and carry out court-related duties. The role requires patrols on roads, lakes, and trails, responding to emergencies, and coordinating with agencies as needed.

Essential functions include investigations, evidence collection, report writing, transporting prisoners, and testifying in court. Applicants must be POST-certified or eligible and able to obtain CPR/First Aid certifications.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in criminal justice or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Satisfactory completion of job-related health and psychiatric evaluations.
• POST certification as a Minnesota Peace Officer is required or eligible at time of application.
• Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid certifications and medication distribution approvals.

Responsibilities

• Patrol roadways, lakes, and trails by vehicle, foot, snowmobile, boat, and aircraft.
• Respond to calls for service such as death, medical emergencies, crimes, safety concerns.
• Investigate calls and incidents, interview witnesses, collect evidence, and coordinate with other agencies.
• Document calls and incidents in reports; complete federal, state, and local forms.
• Serve criminal and civil writs, warrants, and court processes; certifies to court.
• Transport prisoners and escorts to jail, court, or medical facilities.
