Job summary

Ventura County Sheriff's Office invites applications for Deputy Sheriff. Newly appointed deputies start in custody and complete a multi-year assignment before transitioning to patrol, then undergo a five-month Field Training Program at a patrol station across the county.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of California codes, county ordinances and departmental rules.
• Ability to prepare clear, accurate written reports and correspondence.
• Ability to take effective action in emergencies and emergencies.
• Familiarity with arrest procedures, evidence handling, and court requirements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills in high-stress environments.

Responsibilities

• Custody: act as jailer, supervise inmate housekeeping, escort and transport inmates, log visits, maintain records, and perform related duties.
• Custody: admit and log visitors, ensure compliance with visiting rules, perform searches, and prepare reports.
• Patrol: respond to complaints, issue citations, make arrests, investigate crimes, and testify in court.
• Patrol: serve warrants, utilize intelligence-led policing, and contribute to community safety initiatives.
• Performs other related duties as required.
