Job summary

Military, Veterans and Diverse Job Seekers is recruiting deputies in California. Selected applicants will attend a POST-approved academy for 26 weeks of academic and physical training, after which they graduate as Peace Officers and are sworn in as Deputy Sheriff.

No prior law enforcement experience is required. The Sheriff’s Office offers multiple specialized assignments and maintains an ongoing recruitment process with an eligible list for up to twelve months.

Qualifications

• Valid California driver's license (out-of-state license accepted during application).
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited US school.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent resident eligible for citizenship (one year prior).
• Must be 21 years of age at appointment.
• Ability to meet health standards as prescribed by County Medical Consultant.
• Background investigation including polygraph, medical and psychological testing.

Responsibilities

• Attend POST-approved police academy (26 weeks) with intensive academics and fitness.
• Graduate and be sworn in as Peace Officers, then promoted to Deputy Sheriff.
• Serve across specialized units and assignments as available.
• Maintain fitness and readiness throughout the training and career pipeline.
