Howard County Government is seeking Deputy Sheriffs to perform law enforcement duties with state-wide powers, serving civil and criminal papers and maintaining court security. The role requires being an essential employee with on-call shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Minimum education includes a high school diploma or GED, plus MPCTC entry-level training. Travel to extradition cases and court appearances may be required. The position offers benefits and stable county employment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of law enforcement practices, court procedures, and process serving regulations.
• Knowledge of Civil process procedures.
• Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal laws.
• Ability to use issued/approved firearms.
• Ability to prepare records and reports.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and/or written directions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Responsabilités

• Processes and serves civil and criminal papers, from in and out of State.
• Provides court security and maintains order during sessions.
• Transports prisoners as per court orders.
• Enforces State and County laws.
• Issues Maryland State and Howard County parking citations as required.
• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
