Job summary

Athens-Clarke County Sheriff’s Office is seeking Deputy Sheriff / Corporal. The position may be assigned to the Training Unit or Jail section, with responsibilities across inmate processing, training delivery, and security.

Candidates must meet POST certification, GCIC/NCIC familiarity, First Aid/CPR, and a high school diploma. A $6,000 hiring incentive is available, paid in steps after 3, 6, and 12 months.

Qualifications

• Requires US citizenship and 18+ years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with developing and teaching in service lesson plans on defensive tactics, firearms, legal updates, use of force, de‑escalation, community policing, and other in‑service topics.
• Assist with coordinating training curriculum for new hires in the New Hire Training Program.
• Supervise inmate movements and maintain safety and security within the jail.
• Transport inmates when required and operate jail security equipment.
