THIS JOB POSTING IS FOR RETIRED SWORN POLICE AND SHERIFF EMPLOYEES ONLY!

Regular Schedule: 20 hours per week, a Non-Merit vacancy exists in the Sheriff's Office.

Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

**THIS POSITION IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR BALTIMORE COUNTY GOVERNMENT BENEFITS**

A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination outlined below.
Applicants are advised to apply promptly. Current and future vacancies occurring in any office or department of Baltimore County General Government may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.

List all promotions and changes in job duties due to reclassification as separate work experiences on your application. Include the dates of promotions and reclassifications.

You MUST meet the following requirements before being hired:

  1. Must be a retired sworn Police or Sheriff employee and/or have separated in good standing;
  2. Have at least two (2) years' experience as a Police Officer or Deputy Sheriff;
  3. Must have current MPCTC certification or have been previously MPCTC certified;
  4. Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent;
  5. Be at least 21 years old at application submission;
  6. Must be a citizen of the United States;
  7. All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by background investigation and drug test.

Note: Failure to complete all fields of the "Work Experience" section of the application will result in disqualification. Resumes are not considered for qualification purposes but can be provided at the interview stage.

Under close supervision, performs investigative, regulatory, and administrative duties supporting sheriff operations and related services.

  • Interacts with the public, legal personnel, court officials, and other staff.
  • Operates communication devices such as radio and telephone.
  • Provides security by screening and controlling access to the circuit court.
  • Maintains peace and security within court facilities and for judicial employees.
  • Responds to general inquiries and advises potential applicants.

Additional Duties: Maintains vehicles, participates in public relations, performs clerical duties, and other related tasks as required.

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, and prior sworn police or sheriff experience is required.

Must have current MPCTC certification or previous certification.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license (Class C Maryland or equivalent) required at appointment.

Applicants with degrees obtained outside the U.S. must submit degree equivalence documentation from World Education Services, Inc. (www.WES.org).
