  • Ability to meet current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training/Peace Officer's Standards and Training Act
  • If already certified as a peace officer, the Basic Law Enforcement Certification must be in Good Standing
  • Ambulate independently
  • Physical agility to include running, jumping, climbing, crawling, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, carrying and/or dragging
  • See at normal level (or with accommodation)
  • Hear at normal level (or with accommodation)
  • Mental alertness
  • Walk at a moderate or fast pace
  • Distinguish shades of color
  • Utilize the sense of smell
  • Stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain First-aid and CPR certifications

Responsibilities

  • Patrol area to enforce local, state, and federal laws and serve civil papers and warrants.
  • Transport arrestees, inmates, and mental patients to correctional facilities or medical appointments.
  • Gather and complete reports and forms, including accident and incident reports.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations and interview suspects, complainants, and witnesses.
  • Provide security for judges and court proceedings; assist other law enforcement agencies as necessary.

The mission of the Camden County Sheriff's office is to act in the capacity of the constitutionally commissioned chief law enforcement agency. We have the duty to preserve the peace and protect the lives, person, property, health and morals of our citizens. We are the keepers of the county jail and we are the arm and sword of the courts. This position is responsible for patrolling the county to enforce local, state, and federal laws, and for serving civil papers and warrants.

Special Requirements
  • Knowledge in applicable federal, state, and local statutes and agency policies and procedures; issues citation as needed
  • Responds to calls relayed by radio, including but not limited to, domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic accidents, lost or missing persons, and stranded motorists
  • Serves civil papers, subpoenas, and executes search warrants
  • Provides security for judges and court proceedings
  • Transport arrestees, inmates, and mental patients to correctional facilities, medical appointments, or the courthouse
  • Gather and complete all required reports and forms, including accident and incident reports
  • Conducts preliminary investigations of crime and accident scenes; interviews suspects, complainants, and witnesses
  • Collects and preserves evidence; searches vehicles as necessary
  • Conducts security checks of residences and businesses
  • Provides security and directs traffic for special activities such as funerals, athletic events, and fairs/festivals
  • Testifies in court as needed
  • Assist other law enforcement agencies as necessary
  • Know and understand regulations and procedures of state and National Crime Information Centers (NCIC)
  • Know and understand Radio codes and signals used in public safety work
  • Know boundaries and geography of Camden County
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • In the event of an emergency, all Camden County employees are considered essential and may be required to perform alternate duties
  • Attend and pass all required training set forth by the sheriff's office, the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, the Georgia Sheriff's Association, the Peace Officers Standard of Training, and other training attended
  • Procedures for logging and docketing warrants and civil papers
  • Qualifying and use of firearms, intoximeters, communications equipment, photographic equipment, and other standard and specialized equipment as applicable
  • Skill in driving a vehicle in routine and emergency situations
  • Ability to use self defense and de-escalation tactics
  • Endure verbal and mental abuse when confronted with hostile views and opinions of individuals encountered in an antagonistic environment
  • Apply extensive knowledge in collecting, organizing and analyzing diverse information in order to decide upon and appropriate a reasonable course of action, especially in emergency situations
  • Operating computer networks, operating systems, hardware and software applications
