Job summary

The National Solar Observatory (NSO), operated by AURA, seeks a Deputy Project Manager for the ngGONG Design Project based in Boulder, CO. You will lead the on-site project office and coordinate with science, engineering, and administration to keep design reviews on track.

As a member of the project leadership team, you will guide day-to-day operations, mentor staff, and ensure collaboration across NSO, AURA, and partner institutions while supporting planning for CoDR, PDR, and future FDP

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, astronomy, physics, or related areas.
  • Ten+ years of progressively responsible leadership on complex science or engineering projects.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical teams.
  • Experience with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and reporting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the PM's primary on-site representative in Boulder.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Boulder project office.
  • Build a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Establish priorities and resolve issues to maintain momentum.
  • Manage interfaces with NSO, AURA, and partner institutions.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and staff development.
  • Coordinate planning and execution toward CoDR and PDR.
