Job description

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for someone experienced in Medical Workforce to progress into a managerial role. Under the direction of the Medical Workforce Manager, the post holder will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing a systematic and proactive approach to the delivery and management of medical workforce matters. This includes establishing excellent working relationships with key clinical and management staff within the directorates, delivering within agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, and cost constraints. The post holder will provide expert advice, guidance, and support regarding Trust policies, procedures, national terms and conditions, workforce planning, and developments related to the medical workforce. They will also provide professional leadership to the Medical Workforce team and contribute to their development. The candidate should have broad specialist medical workforce knowledge and experience, including job planning, rotas, Lead Employer arrangements, and medical education (undergraduate and postgraduate training).

Main Duties
  1. Support the Medical Workforce Manager and team in delivering the Trust's medical workforce strategy effectively.
  2. Supervise the Medical Workforce function and staff within the department.
  3. Manage and support Undergraduate and Postgraduate activities, establishing Quality Assurance processes.
  4. Ensure recruitment and selection of Consultants and Specialty Doctors adhere to relevant guidelines and update policies as needed.
  5. Manage and support the Clinical attachment process.
  6. Maintain systems to monitor medical vacancies across the Trust, supporting responsive activities and reducing reliance on temporary staff.
  7. Contribute to a robust medical job planning process, working with Medical and Service Leads to manage effective job planning procedures, including supporting the annual cycle.
  8. Develop and maintain protocols to ensure job plans are captured, reviewed annually, and stored for audits.
  9. Maintain databases to monitor Consultant and SAS doctor appraisals, ensuring compliance with national guidance and local delivery.
