Job summary

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a proactive administrator to support daily operations and supervision at a DJJ facility. You will work under the Juvenile Facility Manager, ensuring program delivery and compliance with policies, while coordinating accreditation and interfacing with attorneys and families.

Primary duties include supervising staff, maintaining safety protocols, and implementing department initiatives to support youth re-entry and community goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Two years of experience in public or business administration.
  • Experience supervising youth in community or residential settings may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in daily operations of a Department of Juvenile Justice facility under direction of the Juvenile Facility Manager or Administrative Coordinator.
  • Provides daily supervision to assigned staff and may recommend personnel actions.
  • Administrates all aspects of the facility in the absence of the Manager or Coordinator.
  • Coordinates American Correctional Association accreditation process.
  • Consults with attorneys, parents and departmental personnel regarding services for youth.
  • Might be required to restrain out-of-control juveniles.

This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. Responsibilities
  • Assists in daily operations of a Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facility under direction of the Juvenile Facility Manager or Administrative Coordinator with regards to treatment and business responsibilities.
  • Assists in the daily operations of the program and provides daily supervision to assigned staff. Recommends personnel actions including disciplinary, etc.
  • Administers all aspects of the facility in the absence of the Juvenile Facility Manager or Administrative Coordinator. Interprets/enforces policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation process.
  • Consults with attorneys, parents, departmental personnel and other interested parties as they relate to services provided to juveniles in DJJ care.
  • May be required to restrain out-of-control juveniles.

Minimum Requirements
  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of experience in public or business administration.
  • Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a community setting, residential, correctional, group home, detention, military, or day treatment program will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Two years of this experience must have been as a supervisor in a community setting, residential, correctional, group home, detention, military, or day treatment program.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
