Job summary

West Virginia Department of Agriculture seeks a Deputy General Counsel to provide legal services for the department and conservation agency. The role requires drafting and reviewing contracts, advising on real property matters, and coordinating with the Attorney General’s Office on litigation.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a regionally accredited or ABA-accredited law school with bar eligibility.
• At least three years of experience as a licensed attorney, preferred.
• Admission to the West Virginia State Bar within 24 months of employment is required.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, memoranda, and contracts.
• Provide legal advice to the Department of Agriculture and Conservation Agency.
• Perform due diligence on real estate transactions and prepare deeds/easements.
• Coordinate with the WV Attorney General’s Office in litigation matters.
• Conduct legal research across real property, contract, employment, and environmental law.
