Job summary

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is seeking a leader to direct staff and funding for natural and cultural resources management, interpretive programming, and partnerships across the division. You will guide strategic planning, budgeting, and communications to advance conservation and public engagement across Indiana parks and resources.

This role emphasizes managing staff, coordinating with state and federal agencies, and overseeing marketing, publications, and site improvements.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of agency and/or organizational programs and business practices.
• Extensive knowledge of State programs and resources, public policy, and program evaluation.
• Ability to develop and/or measure program outcomes.
• Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with key public and private government and business leaders.

Responsibilities

• Direct staff, funding, and activities related to natural resources management in the division, including management of invasive species, nuisance wildlife, reservoir crop lease management, wetlands, wildlife surveys, research, division training, and related conservation activities.
• Direct staff, funding, and activities related to cultural resources management in the division, including coordination with DHPA for compliance with preservation laws, archaeology and historical research and education, archives management, and division training.
• Direct staff, funding, and activities related to interpretation of natural and cultural resources, facilities, and park operations, including programming, events, signage, exhibits, planning, social media, brochures, and online resources.
• Direct staff, funding, and activities related to volunteers, partnerships, and outreach for the division.
• Participate in budget planning, monitoring, and funding decisions for the Division.
• Coordinate and communicate guidelines and actions related to grants with state, federal, or private entities.
• Supervise personnel, including hiring, workload, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
• Direct planning and evaluation of web and social media efforts, and coordinate marketing to drive revenue and expand experiences.
• Provide oversight of site changes for facilities on state park and reservoir properties, and participate in design planning for improvements and new trails and facilities.
• Guide publications, newsletters, and social media campaigns prior to publication and distribution.
• Direct contracting for services, materials, media, and partnerships; oversee video production and surveys.
• Prepare public statements and FAQs for significant changes or issues affecting the division.
• Facilitate the division's five-year strategic planning process and report progress to leadership and the public.
• Other duties as assigned.
