UN Women in New York seeks a Deputy Director for Financial Management to lead the global Financial Management Section and drive strategic financial leadership across the organization.

The Deputy Director for Financial Management leads the Financial Management Section and oversees global finance operations, accounting, treasury, policies, and controls.
Job purpose: The Deputy Director for Financial Management is responsible for leading UN Women’s global financial management function. This includes ensuring effective stewardship of financial resources, sound financial operations, robust internal controls, timely IPSAS-compliant reporting, and efficient treasury and revenue management. The role drives continuous improvement in finance policies, systems, and processes, providing strategic financial leadership and advice to senior management and governance bodies to support organizational strategy and sustainability.
Responsibilities: The Deputy Director leads the Financial Management Section and global finance network, setting priorities and performance standards aligned with UN Women's Strategic Plan. Responsibilities include providing strategic advice on financial management and risk, maintaining and strengthening the financial framework, and ensuring effective controls. The role oversees financial operations, revenue management, and treasury functions, ensuring accurate processing and monitoring of financial transactions. Additionally, the Deputy Director leads IPSAS-compliant financial reporting, manages audit engagements, and drives business transformation and process improvements within financial systems. They also represent UN Women in relevant forums and build capacity within the finance team.
Education: A Master’s degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, or financial management is required. An internationally recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g., CA, ACA, CPA, ACCA) is also required and may substitute for a Master’s degree.
Work experience: Requires at least 15 years of progressive senior-level experience in financial management, accounting, or financial operations within a large organization. A minimum of 7 years of experience producing IPSAS- or IFRS-compliant financial statements is necessary. Experience with ERP-enabled financial management systems, personnel leadership in international settings, and ideally within the UN system, is also required.
